Welcome to Highway Cats

Fifth Chapter Reading of Highway Cats

Read pages 60-71 silently. Then read it aloud to yourself and listen to your voice. When you read aloud, make your voice sound like the character who is speaking.

Then answer these questions in your Q & A Section:
(use complete sentences)

1. The illustrations of this book are created by using silhouettes. Look at the illustration on pages 60 and 61. Where are Shredder and the kits playing? Do you have one of these places in your neighborhood? If so, where?

2. On page 62, the kits are described as being "inseparable". What does this mean?

3. How did Shredder feel after saving the kits? Choose one:

a. Shredder was worried about the kits.
b. He was brimming over with happiness.
c. Shredder felt beaten down.
d. Sleepiness was overcoming him.

4. Murray the Claw and Jolly Roger used ugly words to describe what the kits "can't do". What are some verbs that they used? Mention 4 of them in a complete sentence. (hint, look on page 64.)

5. Murray knows a "secret" about the forest. What is it? Did Shredder know this too? (hint: these answers are found on different pages.)

6, Shredder presents himself as being "hard-bitten", but he confesses to Khalia Koo that he is really, what? (use the adjective that he uses in a complete sentence)

7. At the end of the chapter, where did Shredder decide to stay and with whom?
